NIKAH

Allah ﷻ, The Almighty and Majestic Says in the Qur’an:

وَمِنْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ أَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًۭا لِّتَسْكُنُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهَا وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَكُم مَّوَدَّةًۭ وَرَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِك لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ لِّقَوْمٍۢ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

(Holy Quran, Chapter 30, Verse 22)

“And among His signs is that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Surely in this are signs for people who reflect.”

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Marriage is a blessing from Allah (SWT) and a vital part of our religion. A wedding is a joyful event, and we are delighted that you have chosen us to share this blessed occasion with you.

If you would like to have your Nikkah (marriage ceremony) at the Islamic Foundation of Lincoln or request our Imam to officiate your ceremony, please review and complete the checklist below to ensure a smooth process.

Nikkah Requirements and Checklist

The following six requirements must be satisfied before the marriage contract can be completed:

Step 1: Appointment

Please schedule your Nikkah appointment at least seven (7) days in advance to accommodate our Imam and facility scheduling.

Step 2: Free Will

The offer and acceptance of marriage must be given freely and voluntarily by both the bride and the groom.

Step 3: Mahr (Dowry)

The Mahr gift from the groom to the bride must be fully agreed upon prior to the Nikkah ceremony.

Step 4: Wali (Guardian)

The bride’s Wali (Islamic legal guardian) must be present or have provided valid legal representation for the ceremony.

Step 5: Witnesses

Two adult Muslim male witnesses must be present for the officiating of the contract.

Step 6: Identification

All official parties named in the marriage contract must present a valid state-issued driver’s license or government-issued ID.
